Cosy up for winter

When winter really kicks in, we all know that staying in becomes the more tempting option than going out. So take some of our style tips on board, snuggle up and you won’t feel the least bit guilty!

Here are our top three tips for cosying up your space.

1. Up the texture ante

The hand-crafted look is big this year and layers of texture instantly say 'stay put right here'. This season there is an amazing range of hand produced knits and embelished embroidery is all over cushions, rugs, throws and wall art this autumn. Snuggly blankets and cosy throws on beds and in front of the fire will make your home feel super welcoming.

Hand-thrown pottery with textured finishes or rich shades will add to the cosy feel in your space. Add some rustic charm with wood - vintage or reclaimed has more personality - and the hug factor immediately goes up.

2. Raise the glam factor

Velvet is all the rage this winter - curtains, cushions or sofas in rich tones add glamour and bring a warm glow to your space. Even more en vogue if it has some tassles or fringing attached!

Cocktail hour is all part of the stay-home experience! the Art Deco era knew how to do this in spades - get a retro bar cart or use a side-table or any other spare surface. Add some gold, bronze, antique glass and a slab of marble and you are good to go! Add a light above it with a plug-in wall lamp and set the bottles on a marble platter, accessorise with some colourful spirit bottles and set out some cut glass to catch the light and throw twinkles around the room.

3. Get the glow

Crack out the fairy lights early - they don’t just have to be for Christmas. Arrange some on your mantelpiece or on top of a bookcase, bundle a set into a glass vase, or wrap some around a house plant. If you use battery ones on timers you then can just forget about them and they will do all the hard work for you, they don’t have to be in reach!

Also increase the lighting elsewhere in the room – get an extra floor lamp or light on a table next to your armchair, put it on a timer and you’ll always have a welcoming glow.
