The brief was to design a contemporary yet comfortable formal living room in this family home, blending furniture from our client’s previous property with existing fixtures, blended with newly purchased items, utilising vintage items where possible.  We started by sanding and staining the floorboards to create a warmer darker walnut base to work from.

Then paint colours and fabrics were selected to frame the space : India Yellow (Farrow & Ball) was chosen for the ceiling, leaving neutral walls to allow existing artworks to sing.   A range of contemporary, textured, fairly monochromatic yet warm fabrics were used for furnishing and curtains. Careful consideration was given to all the design details - layering rugs and wall lights and adding complimentary cushions and accessories.   As a large room, were able to create a secondary seating area with chaise longue to allow daytime view of the garden outside the french doors.
